Social performance
Stakeholder comment
Deshamanya Lalith Kotelawala, Chairman, Ceylinco Consolidated, Sri Lanka: 'Social responsibility is about caring for people and the world we live in. It must transcend profit and the bottom line. Both our organizations follow the same principles in daily work, and our common project is mutually beneficial and achieving results.'
Social responsibility has always been a cornerstone of Holcim's commitment to SD. It is about caring for people: our employees and our neighbors as well as our customers and suppliers. We are determined to contribute to improving the quality of the lives of our stakeholders within our spheres of influence.
Our CSR policy and approach was launched in 2003.

The following are the pillars of our CSR policy:

All Group companies have integrated CSR in their business plans - 78% have developed a specific CSR strategy and 67% have conducted a risk analysis.

An important key performance indicator is CSR spending in the Group. In 2006, CHF 35.9 million was spent on donations and charity, CSR projects in the three focus areas, and CSR coordination (2005: CHF 32.3 million). More CSR spending has been invested in strategic projects within the communities than in previous years. Per employee, project-spend increased from CHF 179 (2005) to CHF 227 (2006). Overall, our community initiatives and in-kind support represent 1% of net income before tax.
